The first part of being prepared is being informed!
Here are some answers to our most commonly asked questions.
Can we bring chaperones?
Yes! We recommend a chaperone for every seven students. They get to enjoy all the activities, meals, service projects, messages, and worship alongside the students! The cost is only $275 per chaperone, which is the same as the student price.
What are the accommodations like?
We have excellent bunkhouses with two private bathrooms per bunkhouse, mini-split HVAC units, thick inner-spring mattresses, carpet, and tiled bathrooms. The rooms have 12-16 beds.
What steps are taken to ensure the safety of all participants?
All staff and volunteers are vetted through interviews and background checks. During our two-week staff training, our counselors will be trained in first-aid, safety policies, recreation, and much more. We also have a trained, designated medical volunteer to administer medications and assist in the overall care of all participants. The camp is inspected on an annual basis and has scored a perfect 100 health and safety rating since 2021.
What steps are taken to ensure my child's safety?
All staff and volunteers undergo a background check. During staff training, counselors are trained in basic first aid and situational awareness to prevent incidents. The camp has volunteer medical professionals who manage medication and camper wellness. Staff are trained to facilitate recreation. Any water activities are supervised by American Red Cross certified lifeguards. Also, the camp is inspected on an annual basis. Since 2020 Truett has received a 100 health and safety rating from the NC Department of Health & Safety.
What should my child bring to camp?
Campers should bring their own bedding (twin-sized bunks), toiletries, clothes, and Bible.
If they have any medication, whether over the counter or prescription, they must turn those in at check-in in a 1-gallon Ziploc bag with the camper’s name clearly labeled.
We highly recommend bringing two pairs of shoes, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and clothes that are suitable for work projects (which could include painting, landscaping, etc.).
Can my child be successful at camp if they have a developmental disability?
Our heart is to minister to as many people as possible, but we do have realistic limits to our facilities. If a child is interested in attending camp, who may require special accommodations, please contact us. We encourage parents to have a conversation with the Summer Camp Coordinator to see if the individual can have a positive experience.
